Ayodhya is witnessing large-scale preparations ahead of the Ram Navami festivities, expected to draw an unprecedented number of devotees. The Ram Navami Mela will begin on March 30, with the main celebration scheduled for April 6. Authorities are preparing for over 50 lakh pilgrims during the nine-day festival, resulting in overwhelming demand for accommodation.

Accommodation Shortage Amid Surging Footfall

Finding lodging in Ayodhya has become increasingly difficult. Hotels and dharamshalas are almost fully booked, with 90% of rooms already occupied. The remaining availability is under high demand, as hoteliers report multiple requests for each open room. With traditional accommodations exhausted, many visitors are turning to homestays, temples, ashrams, and monasteries. However, these too are now reaching full capacity, leaving many devotees searching for alternatives.

Kamlesh Srivastava, BJP’s City President, confirmed the surge: “Ayodhya is receiving 70,000 to 80,000 pilgrims daily for Ramlala’s darshan. We expect over 50 lakh visitors during the festival, with daily numbers reaching up to 3 lakh.”

Local Hoteliers and Homestay Operators See Unprecedented Demand

Local hoteliers are feeling the pressure. Ramji Pandey mentioned that room bookings closed weeks ago, yet his hotel continues receiving more than 50 inquiries daily. Anoop Gupta added that demand has risen due to the academic break and high interest from South Indian devotees.

Dharamshalas face similar challenges. Aditya Sultania reported full occupancy since the Pran Pratishtha ceremony, continuing through April 10. Sunil Gupta, a homestay operator, stated that many guests are repeat visitors from the Kumbh Mela, resulting in early and complete bookings until April 8.

Ram Navami 2025 to Feature New Surya Tilak Ceremony

This year’s celebration introduces a scientific addition — the Surya Tilak. On April 6 at 12:00 noon, the sun’s rays will illuminate Ramlala’s forehead through a special optical system. Developed by the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, the mechanism uses a gear-based, non-electric setup of mirrors and brass pipes to direct sunlight precisely.

Experts from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, confirm that this rare spectacle will become more prominent annually until 2044, after which the cycle will restart.

Extensive Facilities for Pilgrims in Ayodhya

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is working extensively to ensure smooth operations during the festival. Devotees worldwide will be able to view live telecasts of Ramlala’s Shringar, Abhishek, and the Surya Tilak. Celebrations will begin at 9:30 AM with the Abhishek and continue through noon, with a break for decoration and a special 56-bhog offering before the Surya Tilak.

To manage the massive crowds:

LED screens will broadcast key ceremonies citywide.

Free prasad will be distributed at the Angad Tila complex.

200 water taps are being installed for drinking water access.

Pathways are being covered to ease movement for barefoot visitors.

Coolers will be placed across the area to mitigate rising temperatures.

Daily Spiritual Events and Cultural Programs

The celebrations will feature Ram Katha by Atul Krishna Bhardwaj, daily recitations of the Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas, and sacred yagyas in the Yagyashala. The Ram Janmabhoomi Path will be beautifully decorated, and the temple complex will be illuminated with lights, creating a festive environment.

With a blend of tradition, faith, and scientific innovation, Ram Navami 2025 in Ayodhya is shaping up to be the most memorable celebration in the city’s recent history.
