The advancement of artificial intelligence recently brought forth the innovation of generating art in the style of Studio Ghibli animations, but its application can be seen far beyond the digital canvas. People such as Instagram user Diamond Okoh-Chukwuma are utilizing AI to improve their health and fitness, with some even losing weight. According to Okoh-Chukwuma, she was able to lose 34 pounds, approximately 15 kg, by utilizing AI in the development of her customized weight loss strategy.

Okoh recently posted a video on her channel explaining her weight loss story, called ‘I lost 34 pounds (15 kg) using AI… went from almost 220 lbs (100 kg) to 183 lbs (83 kg) with these Copilot prompts.’ She further added that Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot, aided her in building a weight loss plan, and in her video, she described the prompts that guided her journey as well as her desired end goals.

The AI prompts that motivated her to drop weight

1. Understanding total daily energy expenditure (TDEE)

Okoh describes how Copilot helped her set her daily calory intake. To get her Estimated TDEE, she would say, “Hello, My name is (insert name), I’m (insert age) years old and weight (insert weight). I lead a (insert exercise activity level – from sedentary to highly active) lifestyle. I am a (insert gender) and my height is (insert height)”. Compute my TDEE.”

TDEE or Ftotal daily energy expenditure refers to the total calories a person burns over a day taking all activities including exercises into account. As Okoh explained in the interview, knowing her TDEE helped her sustain the required calorie deficit without suffering from extreme hunger like most dieters.

2. Determining the calorie deficit for weight loss

After calculating her TDEE, she then went to the AI to set a sensible caloric intake for losing weight. “Based on my TDEE what the AI said take 200 to 500 calories less what I normally take during the day if I want to achieve my TDEE to lose weight without harming my body.”

As the AI suggested, promoting gradual weight loss over time while avoiding limitation is accomplished by lapse of 200 to 500 calories beneth the TDEE.

3. Optimising nutrition for fat loss and muscle retention

Okoh took advantage of AI in order to maintain muscle mass while losing fat. For instance, she used this prompt, “Based on what I just shared, how many grams of protein should I eat daily to build muscle while losing fat?” and the app calculated her daily protein needs.

She emphasized that protein is critical when it comes to reducing muscle mass, skin elasticity, and fat tissue.

4. Proper hydration levels

Again AI played a part with hydration strategy. To ensure she was consuming adequate amounts of water, she posed the query: “How much water should I be consuming daily to help with satiety and reduce sugar cravings?”

The AI instructed her to consume 2-3 litres of water daily, which ended up helping her feel fuller and manage her cravings.

Why AI Is Not Enough: The Shortcomings of AI-Driven Personalized Training Programs

AIs are useful, but experts recommend not using them exclusively for fitness and health advice. This reasoning is particularly relevant to weight loss: this attempt requires a lifestyle strategy merging AI outputs with expert input and personal understanding.

AI does not use true personalization: An AI can make reasonable suggestions based on their available data; however, it does not take into account personal details such as a person’s medical history, metabolic rate, and even hormonal imbalances. A multicdisciplinary health specialist is required for a more precise instruction.

Disregarding psychology along with lifestyle components: Plans that stem from AI focus solely on putting the body in a calorie deficit and macronutrients consumption, all the while ignoring certain factors such as stress, emotional eating, and sleeping patterns, which significantly helps with losing weight.

Possibility of developing unhealthy practices: Having such a high dependence on AI to set a specific target calorie and nutrient goal may lead to delta of two extremes, starvation and malnutrition, or even worse, an eating disorder. The lack of human emotional intelligence makes AI incredibly dangerous.

Absence of human assistance and guidance coupled with accountability: Weight loss and manipulations of the body complex numbers; for that reason motivational and ongoing habit and behavior deviations are required. Certified dietitians, nutritionists, trainers and/or coaches account for real life deviations and provide a healthy and sustainable approach.
