Latest Passport Restrictions: A passport is a travel document that identifies a person and his or her nationality. It is the primary travel document when going overseas. It enables a person to visit another country for tourism, studying, business, and other activities. The Government of India has made some modifications with respect to the passport rules.

The central government has revised the passport rules. For passport applicants who were born on or after the 1 October 2023 will now be required to only provide on their birth certificate as the sole piece of documentation. This week, an official note has been issued to effect the amendment in the Passport Rules 1980.

The amendments will take effect once they are published in the official gazette. As per the new rules and regulations, the birth certificate from the Office of the Registrar of Births & Deaths of the Municipal Corporation as well as other authorized offices issued on or post 1 October 2023 shall be sufficient proof of date of birth for such people. Applicants in different categories may use different documents like driving license or school leaving certificate as proof of date of birth.

Emerging as a standout feature of the domestic documentation spectrum, the Indian passport allows the Indian government to efficiently manage the citizenship profiles of each Indian citizen traveling overseas. The government issues three different categories of Indian passports: Ordinary passport, Official passport and Diplomatic passport. Ordinary passport is issued to the average residents while the remaining categories are reserved for high ranking Indian government officials. The validity of an ordinary passport is 10 years.
