MWC 2025 recently saw an announcement from Google, and this is a big deal if you are an enthusiast of AI-based technologies. Later this month, they are launching Project Astra powered live video and screen sharing in Gemini Live. But what does this mean for you? Let’s break it down.
What is Project Astra?
As a next generation aide, Astra has the ability to see and comprehend the environment around the user, thus going beyond just answering questions. By facilitating real world interactions with the user, Astra becomes the perfect assistant.
What can it do?
The list is seemingly endless, but with Astra integrated into Gemini Live, the most notable features include:
– Screen sharing with Gemini, which in turn allows the AI to instantly analyze what is displayed on your phone and offer insights.
– Astra having the ability to turn on the phone camera in a live video, then interpreting everything that is shown in real-time.
– Instead of having to deal with short answers, Astra can give fuller responses. This allows the user to engage more by receiving in-depth explanations from Gemini.
For instance, suppose you are lost in a rather complicated settings tab on your phone. Just share your screen on the Gemini Live application, and it will instruct you on what exactly to do. Or, if you are doing a repair job at home, just point the camera at it and Astra will guide you, step by step, throughout the entire process.
How can you do it?
It’s really easy to use these options:
1 – If you are using Android, go to Gemini Live and you will find a new “Share screen with Live” button which is located above the chat box 2.
2- You are now able to press the button to share your screen, and the next thing you can do is ask Gemini questions about what he sees on the screen.
3 – Or, you can switch to video mode and start a live video, and Astra will start scanning the surroundings you are in.
Gemini Advanced subscribers customers under the Google One AI Premium plan will receive these improvements later this month. If you happen to be at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, go ahead and try it!
