Hair oiling before a shower is a habit many people follow, especially on weekends. This routine has been passed down through generations and is widely considered beneficial. Typically, oil is massaged into dry hair and scalp, then left for an hour before rinsing off. However, according to Indian celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib, this common method might be incorrect.

Why Oiling Dry Hair May Not Work
In a recent YouTube interview on March 15, Jawed Habib explained that oiling dry hair is not effective. He stated that most hair products—like conditioner, shampoo, and soap—are applied on wet hair. So, applying oil to dry hair goes against this logic. He questioned, "Why is it only oil that’s applied to dry hair when nothing else is?"

The Right Way to Oil Hair, According to Habib
Habib emphasized that for better results, oil should be applied on wet hair. He shared a simple method:

First, wet your hair with lukewarm water. Avoid water that is too hot or too cold.

Once your hair is damp, apply the oil thoroughly.

Use a comb or brush to evenly spread the oil.

Wait for five minutes.

Then, wash your hair using any regular shampoo.

Mustard Oil: The Best Choice for Hair
Jawed Habib recommends mustard oil as the best option for hair nourishment. He claims that regular use of this technique can significantly reduce hair fall. According to him, “If you do this daily, your hair will remain intact for life.”
