The 18th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL will be played in the year 2025, but before that, a mega player auction will be organized in which many big changes will be seen in all the 10 teams. In such a situation, all eyes are on the IPL player retention policy to be issued by the BCCI. An announcement can be made soon by the BCCI regarding this, in which the mega player auction can be organized at the end of November or early December this year. At the same time, BCCI can also give a big shock to all the franchises this time regarding the retention policy.
Only 5 retention discounts will be available, there will be no RTM option.
IPL franchises may get permission from BCCI to retain a maximum of 5 players before the mega player auction. According to the report of Indian Express, IPL franchises can retain 5 players but it is not yet clear how many Indian and foreign players they have been allowed to retain. When the mega player auction was held in the year 2022, at that time all the franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players by the BCCI, in which only more than 3 Indian or 2 foreign players were allowed. At the same time, this time BCCI can remove a big rule Right to Match i.e. RTM in the mega player auction, which is no less than a big setback for all the franchises.
Retaining old players will also ensure their brand value.
Regarding this mega player auction, a meeting of all 10 franchises was held at the BCCI headquarters on July 31, in which the retention policy was also discussed. After this, BCCI can now allow the retention of at least 5 players, which will give the franchises a chance to retain their old players and this will also ensure their brand value. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings can get the most benefit from this.
