After Manipur, now violence in Tripura, tension between two communities, internet service shut down

After Manipur, now news of violence has come from the northeastern state of Tripura. Incidents of violence and arson have been coming to the fore in Manipur for the last several months. Meanwhile, there has been a huge uproar in a village in the northern district of Tripura. The mob targeted the temple and mosque on Tuesday. After this, communal tension spread between the two communities. The administration suspended mobile internet services and removed the Superintendent of Police. Tension prevails in the remote village of Pekurchera in Panisagar subdivision. 

Internet services suspended for 72 hours

Home Secretary P. K. Chakraborty said in an official notification, “SMS and mobile internet services have been suspended for the next 72 hours due to communal tension in some areas of North Tripura district.” Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan said in an order that amid the rising tension and the attack on a Shiva temple and a mosque by a mob, Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty has been removed with immediate effect and attached to the police headquarters. Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Ananta Das said Dhalai district Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai will take charge of the North district till further orders. 

There was a clash between two communities over the donation

This incident happened at a time when a few days ago there was a clash between two communities over donations for Durga Puja, in which one person was killed and 17 others were injured. The person died of bullet injuries. The clash took place in Kadamtala over collecting funds for the puja. Personnel of Assam Rifles and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were deployed in sensitive areas of Kadamtala.
