Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked Prime Minister Modi after the latter lifted the cap on the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane to ` 355 per quintal for the 2025-26 crushing season.

The ruling by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by PM Modi, has approved a ` 15 lift over the current season’s rate. The new FRP will be applicable from 1st October 2025.

Advantage For Sugarcane Farmers And Workers

As per CM Yogi, the raised FRP will aid nearly 5 crore sugarcane farmers and around 5 lakh people working in the industry, as it will strengthen their economic position and fuel self-dependence in the economy.

In his statement, he stressed the need for such a decision to be made with regards to the agriculture sector and commended the intention of the government towards improving farmers’ welfare devotee to the farmers and the agriculture sector.

Growing Needs and Their Consequences On The Region

This increase comes off the back of last year’s FRP increase of ` 25 per quintal for the 2024-25 season. Most welcomed the new adjustment but many farmer factions still feel the need to counter-adjust citing inflation and rising input costs at the market as well as at their own expense during farming to a flexible price of `450 per quintal.

With this move, the Centre is bound to place new stress on Sugarcane growing states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, where advisory committees decide on the pricing regarding sugarcane at the government level.
