A major controversy has erupted over the illegal sale of land belonging to the historic Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Phase 8, Mohali. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken strict action following revelations that high-value land was sold for a fraction of its market price using forged documents.

The Core of the Controversy

The Fraudulent Sale: Approximately 44 marlas (around 1.35 acres) of land located in village Saini Majra (Premgarh), Mohali, was sold for ₹1.32 crore. Experts and local residents claim the actual market value of this prime land is between ₹15 crore to ₹20 crore.

Forgery & Embezzlement: The Gurdwara manager, Rajinder Singh, allegedly forged an authority letter on official SGPC letterhead with fake signatures of SGPC Secretary Partap Singh.

Personal Gain: The sale proceeds (₹1.32 crore) were not deposited into the SGPC’s official accounts but were instead transferred into the manager’s personal bank account.

Major Actions Taken

Suspension & FIR: SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami suspended manager Rajinder Singh on February 4, 2026. Subsequently, an FIR was registered at the Sohana Police Station against seven individuals, including the manager and another SGPC employee, Jagtar Singh.

Special Inquiry Committee: A five-member committee has been formed to conduct a deep probe. Members include Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Manan, and other senior SGPC members.

Cancellation of Registry: The SGPC has approached the Mohali Deputy Commissioner and Tehsildar to immediately cancel the land mutation and registration to prevent further sale or construction on the property.

Secretary Update: As part of the administrative cleanup, internal reports suggest a shift in the oversight roles within the secretariat to ensure such a lapse in "check and balance" doesn't recur.
