In a major security breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (IA) has uncovered a deeply rooted terror network in Jharkhand, raising serious concerns about the growing influence of ISIS radicalization in Ranchi.
The investigation highlights how extremist ideologies are being propagated through digital platforms and local sleeper cells to recruit youth for global terror activities.
The Core of the Investigation
The NIA’s probe follows the arrest and interrogation of several individuals linked to the "Al-Sufa" and ISIS-inspired modules. Key findings from the investigation include:
Digital Recruitment: Operatives were using encrypted social media platforms and "Dark Web" channels to share ISIS propaganda, radicalize vulnerable youth, and provide instructions on creating low-intensity explosive devices.
Ranchi as a Hub: The NIA identified specific locations in Ranchi and its outskirts that were being used as secret meeting points for "indoctrination sessions."
Cross-State Links: The module in Ranchi was not isolated; it had active links with operatives in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, suggesting a coordinated effort to create a pan-India network.
Key Arrests and Recoveries
During the raids conducted across various locations in Jharkhand:
Propaganda Material: A large amount of digital evidence, including extremist literature, videos of global terror leaders, and "how-to" manuals for guerrilla warfare, was seized.
Financial Trails: The NIA traced suspicious fund transfers from overseas, which were reportedly being used to fund the local module's logistical needs and travel for recruits.
The Mastermind: Investigations pointed toward a decentralized leadership where local handlers were in direct contact with "foreign-based controllers" who guided the radicalization process.
The "Lone Wolf" Threat
A major concern highlighted by security agencies is the push for "Lone Wolf" attacks. The ISIS handlers were encouraging radicalized individuals to act independently using locally available weapons (like knives or vehicles) to target public spaces, making it harder for traditional intelligence to intercept the plans.
Action Taken by Local Authorities
Following the NIA’s revelations, the Jharkhand ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad) has been put on high alert. Local police have increased surveillance in sensitive pockets of Ranchi and are working on community outreach programs to counter extremist narratives and prevent further recruitment.
