WhatsApp is working on a powerful update aimed at strengthening message security. As reported by WABetaInfo, the popular messaging app is testing a feature called “advanced chat privacy” in its latest beta release for iOS (version 25.10.10.70) and previously for Android devices.
What Does the Feature Do?
This upcoming setting will allow users to prevent others from saving media (photos, videos) and block the export of full chat histories from selected conversations. The goal is to ensure more privacy and limit the risk of unauthorized sharing.
How It Works:
When enabled in any chat—individual or group—participants will not be able to auto-save media to their device gallery.
The option to export entire chat histories will also be disabled, making it harder to copy and share sensitive conversations.
This builds on WhatsApp’s existing disappearing messages feature but expands it to regular chats.
Forwarding Still Allowed
Even with these restrictions, users will still be able to forward individual messages, ensuring flexibility for sharing specific content.
No Screenshot Detection Planned
WhatsApp has confirmed that it won’t add screenshot detection for this feature. The reasoning is simple: users could still bypass it by using methods like WhatsApp Web, so the focus remains on more effective privacy tools.
