A new feature, a Chat Translate option, is being tested on beta which hopes to make communication easier for those using multiple or different languages. As with earlier updates, user’s privacy Threads app ensures that privacy is upheld while using.

What Is Chat Translate on WhatsApp?

Functionality: A user can translate messages from Tools and WhatsApp directly without using an external application or cloud storage.

Technology: Chat Translate works horse, translates, and downloads module. It uses language packs that function solely on the device.

Privacy Focus: Chat Translate enables all users to speak in their preferred language while maintaining full end-to-end encryption. No message contents are transmitted to Meta servers.

How Chat Translation Works

Activation: The chat info screen activates translation which allows users to select the language in which they wish to have their messages translated to per chat.

Manual Translation: Every served user is able to tap and hold any desktop message and select “Translate” from the wide range of options that the menu provides.

Language Detection: Assists users of multi-lingual group chats.

Supported Languages and Features
 
Spanish, Arabic, Hindi and Portuguese (Brazil) and Russian are the Initial Languages offered by Chat Translate.

Offline Support: These translations can work without internet connection once language packs are downloaded.

Greater Control to The Elucidated Users: Users are given the chance to always modify, disable translate settings and change their chosen languages whenever they want, giving them lead over the control.

Privacy and Data Management
Local Processing: The privacy of the translation is top-notch since it leaves the user’s device.

No Sharing with Meta: Even the feedback does not point out any issues with the translation quality.  

Storage Management: Users can delete the downloaded language packs from the app using WhatsApp’s storage options.  

Availability and Rollout  

Current Status: It is presently available in the WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.25.12.25, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.  

Future Rollout: The wider release will depend on feedback from users of the beta version and the overall functionality of the system.
