UPI technical issues came to light on Saturday morning as millions of users across India faced digital disruption. Bank services that run on UPI infrastructure like PhonePe and Google Pay incurred problems at the same time losing business due to login issues, transaction failures, confirmed logins, and transaction delays.
What occurred? Timeline of the inconvenience
The schedule, outlined in purple indicates the start of disruption which peaks around 8 am. UPI outage tells us that the users commenced reporting issues around the Saturday’s commencement in early hours as well.
Every single platform faced transaction issues at the same time, irrespective of the brand of bank or app they used.
Popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter) saw a flood of complaints with users submitting screenshots of failed transactions along with online banking failures.
Official statement from NPCI.
The National Payments Corporation of India was the first authority to make comments on the issues and roughly this is what their statement included:
"The NPCI is facing some of the worst case scenarios in terms of technology. Such as decreased coverage of transnational activities of social payment systems,” they added, “We are simultaneously attempting to provide a solution and keep you informed. Our apology for the unintermittable trouble continues,”
They made the statement via x post saying every customer facing what NPCI claims is inappropriate has their matters attended to.
