Nintendo has officially postponed pre-orders for the Switch 2 console in the United States, citing the need to evaluate the potential effects of newly announced US tariffs. The pre-orders were initially scheduled to begin on April 9, 2025, but are now on hold indefinitely. However, the console’s launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
In a statement, the company said:
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”
Tariff Impact and Pricing Concerns
The delay comes after President Donald Trump introduced broad reciprocal tariffs, affecting imports from countries such as Vietnam, Japan, and China—key regions in Nintendo’s supply chain. While the Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, the company has not confirmed whether the tariffs will cause a price hike for US consumers.
Global Pre-Order Schedule Unchanged
Nintendo emphasized that the pre-order delay applies only to the US market. Customers in other regions, including the UK, will be able to place orders starting as originally scheduled.
Switch 2 Features and Upgrades
The Nintendo Switch 2 offers several hardware upgrades over its predecessor, including:
A 7.9-inch 1080p display
256GB internal storage
A newly added C-button to enhance in-game communication features
With significant improvements and growing anticipation, Nintendo’s delay in pre-orders could influence market momentum in the US as it navigates pricing and supply chain adjustments.
