Suspense crime, Digital Desk : All departments and state-registered bodies are mandated by the Karnataka government to seek clearance from the AI-ML cell prior to undertaking any action relating toAI or ML.

The Department of e-Governance, through the Division of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, has the power to authorize and scrutinize all AI/ML proposals, as well as exercise a ‘one-stop shop’ approach.

What necessitates the cell’s approval:
As per an official directive:

For privacy safeguarding, the departments must contact the cell.

Duplication and data security is ensured and looked after.

Cell assists in custom-tailored technical vendor identification for AI/ML implementation.

Dileesh Sasi, the Centre for e-Governance’s CEO, stated that as long as AI is in development, the centralized control will be helpful for effective implementation and coordination.

Role of SARAC and AI Governance

Expose AI’s adoption in government department:

The State AI Review and Advisory Committee (SARAC) is charged with overseeing the AI/ML initiatives.

CEO, Center for e-Governance supervises SARAC.

They are responsible for:

Controlling review of government policies on supporting budget AI projects.

Assessment on project feasibility and public impact.

Check that data privacy and security, ethical AI, and no biased AI are maintained.

Fighting for impact-aiding bias within AI sets that are dominated by collaborative departmental tinkering.

Tracking effectiveness and dealing with underperformance as well as misuse of AI.  

Integrating AI into Karnataka's Government  

This is one of the many steps taken in the direction of incorporating and optimizing the use of AI in public administration.  
 
The empowered committee in charge of e-Governance will also be responsible for supervision and evaluation of the implementation of the AI project.
