The process of obtaining a learner's driving license can now be conveniently completed from home, thanks to advancements in online application systems, often facilitated through the VAHAN e-governance platform by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). This digital approach simplifies the initial step for aspiring drivers, eliminating the need for in-person visits to Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for the application and preliminary testing phases.
To initiate the process, applicants typically need to visit the official Parivahan Sewa website or the designated state transport department portal. The application involves filling out an online form, uploading required documents such as proof of age and address (e.g., Aadhaar card, passport, birth certificate), a recent photograph, and potentially a medical certificate if applicable. A nominal fee for the application and the online test must also be paid digitally. Following the submission and verification of documents, candidates will be scheduled for a mandatory online learner's license test. This test usually covers road rules, traffic signs, and basic driving knowledge, and is often conducted remotely or at designated computer-based testing centers. Upon successfully clearing the test and meeting all other criteria, the learner's driving license is issued digitally and can be downloaded by the applicant.
