George Foreman, Olympic gold medalist and two-time heavyweight boxing champion, passed away on March 21 at the age of 76. His family announced the news on social media, sharing a heartfelt tribute alongside a family photo on Instagram.

In their post, the family described Foreman as “a devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand- and great-grandfather,” highlighting his values of faith, humility, and purpose. They also referred to him as “a humanitarian, an Olympian and two-time heavyweight champion of the world,” admired for his integrity and commitment to preserving his legacy.

Tributes Pour In

Tributes quickly followed from fans and public figures. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman posted on X, “The great George Foreman has passed away... Legendary boxing champion, life-changing preacher... His memory is now eternal. May Big George rest in peace.”

A Storied Boxing Career

Born in Texas, Foreman rose to international fame after winning a gold medal at the Olympics. He captured the heavyweight title in 1973 by defeating Joe Frazier. In 1974, he lost the title to Muhammad Ali in the historic “Rumble in the Jungle.”

Foreman initially retired from boxing but made a historic comeback a decade later, reclaiming the heavyweight championship at age 45—making him one of the oldest champions in boxing history.

Life Beyond the Ring

Outside boxing, Foreman became a successful entrepreneur, best known for the George Foreman Grill, which sold over 100 million units worldwide. He also worked as a TV commentator for HBO’s boxing broadcasts and served as a spokesperson for his grill brand. A biographical film about his life was released in 2023.

Personal Life and Legacy

Foreman was married four times and is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Martelly, and 11 children. He faced a serious allegation in 2022 involving child sexual abuse, which he denied.

Remembered as a champion both in and out of the ring, George Foreman leaves behind a lasting legacy in sports, business, and family life.
