Work has begun on integrating the new EV Connector (Devi) buses operating on the capital's roads with metro commuters. Under the pilot plan, transport integration in Yamunapar has been designed. If the pilot scheme works, it will be extended to all of Delhi.
Clearly, the government is focusing on enhancing the last mile connectivity. The government plans to introduce 145 additional short, 9 meter, routes in the capital. These routes are intended to enhance last mile connectivity and provide access to metro stations.
Officials in the transport department mentioned that the 12 meter long DTC and cluster buses routes where Devi buses are operating do offer some level of connectivity. Smaller Devi buses have fewer passengers compared to larger buses. The reason for this is that these smaller buses are unable to access the areas in greatest demand for their services.
In this regard, a blueprint of 145 new routes has been devised with the assistance of IIT Delhi. Starting from Yamuna Vihar, the government will begin the pilot project. Subsequently, these routes will be implemented citywide in a phased approach.
Every effort has been made to guarantee seamless access from colonies to metro stations. The department is not only developing buses, but also unique ‘smart’ digital bus bays. These will be equipped with LED screens displaying the bus’s real-time location, and information such as the route number, as well as arrival and departure time. This project will be implemented jointly with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
