Targeting tourists at a popular spot, the terror attack on Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has drawn widespread condemnation due to the loss of 26 lives. Now, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are demanding a politically unified response for justice in the matter.
Concerns regarding Kashmir’s security issues rekindled once more due to this attack, and focus on Pahalgam’s tourist security has been renewed.
Congress hold Accountability and Justice Demand:
President of the Congress party, Kharge mentions he spoke with J&K’s Home Minister Shah, CM Omar Abdullah, and senior Congress members from the UT late on Tuesday. Weaknesses in security and tourism management prompted him to confront Kharge and he strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an ugly act which would be unforgivable in any society.
He also said there must be suffering for this crime and stressed on building bonds rather than creating divisions amongst party alliances. In fact his statement put forward, “From all sides [an] action in unison in times of difficulty”- best explains his take on cross border terrorism which needs an amplified counter.
Rahul Gandhi Issues Statement from the US:
Ghandi expresses disbelief over the delay of justice in Kashmir as he speaks with Shah, Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Karra. While on his recent visit to the United States, ghandi also attended to some of his constituents concerns. In his own words, he said, “attacks of this nature are heartbreaking and require unreserved condemnation”.
Rahul Ghandi further has elaborated the situation in his own words saying “the entire region has united without regard to boundaries in the fight against terrorism”. At the same time he also appreciated the reaction of the government, saying it is high time they started accepting responsibility”. Criticising the government over what he termed as “empty slogans”, he called out for more tangible measures to ensure such tragedies do not occur in the future.
Congress Demands Immediate Security Strategy Discussing Session:
As ghandi returned to India, his country's political rivals revived focus on discussing security policy concerning Kashmir, calling an inter-party meeting to discuss a more unified approach. Congress requested to gather a broader coalition to formulate an integrated security policy regarding the hitherto regarded sensitive zone that is Kashmir.
The government spent very little time debating over the classification, terming the case unprovoked violence instead labelling it attack on humanity with context accompanying such frame inevitably forces appropriate action commensurate with irreversible consequences to life and injury inflected scars to civilians. Emphasised policies that weaked security control during the influx of tourists, including two civilian nationals alongside two military personnel.
