Bollywood's 'King,' Shahrukh Khan has always been open and vocal about his love and gratitude towards his parents and the life they gave him. During an episode of Anupam Kher's talk show, he came back in the news due to his heartwarming confession that touched millions.

“Main jahase aaya hu waha hamare ghar mein dal mein extra pani dala jata tha so that hum 4 log ko mil sake dal. Tabhi kahi par bhi ilm nahi tha na he soch thi ki main ye mukaam par aa jaunga. If someone like me, with limited looks and intellect, can reach this position, then anything is possible.”

A separate video interview with Parent Circle conducted in 2018, Shah Rukh talked about his childhood years. Parents must make learning enjoyable for their children for them to love it. It will be easier to educate and develop a child if they Associate learning with fun.

As far back as I can remember, my mother selflessly used to feed me with her own hands until I was around 25 years old. If I’m being honest, that’s part of the reason I am currently unwell. His interactions with his parents brimmed with love and tenderness. The father, Taj Mohammed Khan, was a Peshawari Pathan who migrated to India and died from cancer when Shah Rukh was just fifteen years old. His mother, Lateef Fatima Khan, died in 1990 after her long illness.

Moreover, SRK cherished every detail of the food he relished while growing up. “Food from my childhood includes Mughlai and Deccani. You know, my dad was a Pathan and their passion for food is something else! Not only did my dad enjoy eating, but he enjoyed cooking as well. So my Pathan father’s raan would make a perfect combo with my Hyderabadi mother’s mutton biryani and the khatti dal. My parents used to mix these and feed me.”

Then he added with a laugh how things have changed now. “I wouldn’t dream to do that with my kids, they would disown me! But yes, I have baked for them or rattled up a pasta. I baked Batman cookies with Aaryan when he was small. I can boil eggs, make tea. And I make very good phulkas. I can make rather decent pasta also.”

In the same breath, SRK painted a vivid image of his childhood. In stark contrast to the self-indulgent lifestyle one might expect from a international superstar, he lives with his wife and kids in a relatively humble apartment. The story of how his family of four had to dole out one single pot of dal while living in a small home, is truly touching.
