The Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) has found approximately 225 obstacles at the Navi Mumbai International Airport accompanying with its type, height, and location in coordinates details.

The publication themselevs clarified that these hurdles were previously known to the Approach Path of the airport, but it was not until recently that AIP provided clearer explanations of these obstacles in comparison to the others known.

Some of the other impediments include the top of a pipe, design, and a ladder, while the listed ones are the dish antenna of a building (36.3 meters), a grill top (35.8 meters), a staircase room top (34.9 meters), a hoarding top (34 meters), and a parapet wall (31.4 meters).

A "displaced threshold" is set for the runway 26. This allows aircraft coming from the East to avoid starting at the physical beginning of the runway. Safely clearing the 600 meters distance of obstacles ensures the designated landing point starting on the runway.

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) will have to work around the limitations due to the nearby terrain and obstructions which may cause difficulty with the level of manoeuvring space available for aircraft to land and depart. “In regard to the terrain and obstructions that surround, the air traffic control would have to deal with the restrictions. There will be restricted manoeuvring space for the aircraft coming in to land and taking off; it will be cramped,” Capt Amit Singh, an air safety expert, said during an interview.

These setbacks notwithstanding, there is still hope from the Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd. As the company stated, “AIP takes us a step further towards receiving the aerodrome license essential to operationalise the airport.”
