As the gold smuggling case involving actress Ranya Rao unfolds, new details continue to emerge. Recently, her husband, Jatin Hukkar, sought protection from arrest, and the Karnataka High Court has issued an order restricting any action against him until the next hearing.
Jatin Hukkar Granted Protection Until Next Hearing
On March 11, the Karnataka High Court ordered that no action be taken against Hukkar, as there were concerns that he could be detained solely due to his relationship with Ranya Rao. Hukkar’s lawyer, Prabhuling Navadgi, argued in court that his client married Ranya in November but had been living separately since December due to personal conflicts.
What the High Court Said
During the proceedings, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) lawyer Madhu Rao informed the court that he would file an official objection by Monday, March 18. The High Court upheld its previous order, ensuring that no legal action would be taken against Hukkar until the DRI presents its arguments. The next hearing is scheduled for March 24.
Ranya Rao's Father’s Statement Brings Attention to Hukkar
Hukkar came into the spotlight following a statement made by IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, Ranya Rao's father. Ramachandra Rao, who serves as the Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, claimed that Ranya distanced herself from the family after marriage. His remarks came shortly after Ranya Rao’s arrest, which also revealed her connection with a senior DGP-rank officer.
Ranya Rao’s Legal Battle Continues
Ranya Rao was arrested on March 3 for smuggling gold from Dubai and is currently in custody. After her bail application was rejected by a lower court, she filed a fresh plea in the sessions court on Saturday, hoping for relief.
