The people of Delhi may have to face transport problems for the next 2 days. The auto and taxi drivers union in Delhi NCR region has announced a strike on 22 and 23 August. According to the information, more than 15 unions have announced the strike. Due to the strike of auto and taxi drivers, lakhs of vehicles are likely to disappear from the roads of Delhi, due to which common people may face problems in transportation.
Why is the strike happening?
The reason for the strike by auto and taxi driver unions is attributed to the impact of app-based cab services on their livelihood. Auto and taxi drivers argue that their earnings have been reduced significantly due to app-based cab services. Drivers say that neither the central nor the state governments have taken any action to resolve this issue.
Anger against companies like Ola and Uber
Kishan Verma, president of the Delhi Auto-Taxi Transport Congress Union, has said that we have been writing to governments and departments about companies like Ola and Uber for many years, but no one listens. These companies present their side and the government presents its side. These businesses operate as a game of donations, in which the government is also involved. We are demanding an end to this game.
Drivers’ employment is being affected – Union
The president of the Auto-Taxi Transport Congress Union has said that the drivers’ employment is being affected or taken away. He has alleged that private Ola and Uber taxis are involved in smuggling and liquor and drug trade. We are striving to raise these issues. He said that all auto and taxi services will be suspended in Delhi NCR on 22 and 23 August.
