United States President Joe Biden called his country the “most powerful idea” in world history on Wednesday. This came days after he announced that he would drop out of the race for White House.

In a televised speech from the Oval Office on Wednesday, Biden said, “America’s an idea, an idea stronger than any army, bigger than any ocean, more powerful than any dictator or tyrant,” he said. During his speech, the US President warned that democracy is at stake in the November election,” as quoted by news agency AFP.

On July 21, Biden, 81, made a public announcement about his exit from the presidential race. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor for the top post. The decision came after Biden’s dismal performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump.

Biden asserted that democracy is at stake and is more important than any title. He also said that he has decided to pass the torch to a new generation. “The defence of democracy, which is at stake, is more important than any title,” Biden said. “I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our nation,” he said.

On Tuesday, the US President returned to the White House after spending nearly a week at his Delaware residence, where he had self-isolated after he tested positive for COVID-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas. During his quarantine period, Biden sent political shockwaves around the country on Sunday with a post on social media announcing that he was not accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

Republicans have called for the US President to step down altogether, claiming that if he is not fit to stand for reelection, then he is not fit to serve as president.
