A tragic stampede at the Mauni Amavasya Shahi Snan of Maha Kumbh Mela near Sangam created overwhelming chaos and panic throughout Wednesday leaving numerous individuals thought dead and large numbers with serious wounds. The Sangam Nose barrier malfunctioned creating a "stampede-like situation" in accordance with statements from Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Akansha Rana. Rana stated that "nothing is serious" about the reported injuries during the incident.

Millions of physical and devout practitioners gathered at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for the world-famous Maha Kumbh Mela on this metaspirtual day. The rare alignment of planets known as 'Triveni Yog' brought together estimated 10 crore devotees to the event according to the Uttar Pradesh government since its last occurrence spanned 144 years.

Stampede at Sangam Nose: What Happened?

Thousands of people lost their lives when the Shahi Snan bathing ritual took place at Sangam Nose during this Kumbh Mela festival. The most recent videos provided by ANI showed rescue teams sending devotees with injuries to Maha Kumbh hospital in Sector 2 for medical examination. Authorities have yet to determine the total death toll during the incident because they are still assessing the complete severity of the emergency.

Due to the fatal stampede at Kumbh Mela the governing body of Hindu ascetic groups which operates under the name Akhada Parishad made the challenging decision to stop the Shahi Snan ritual. Akhada Parishad Chief Ravindra Puri explained to ABP News why no akhada or sadhu sect engaged in the Shahi Snan because they placed devotional and participant security above all else.
