The first league match of the tournament was played between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in which Gujarat won by 5 wickets. After this, the two faced off in the first playoff match of the tournament, Qualifier-1, in which Chennai won by 15 runs. The qualifier match was played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
