
Ukraine claimed it would accept Washington's suggestion for a 30 day ceasefire with Russia following what Kyiv called 'milestone' discussions in which the U.S. has agreed to reinstate military assistance and intelligence cooperation with Ukraine.
On Tuesday, October, 3, 2023 U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian prioritized his talks with Saudi Arabia in Jeddah. After eight and a half hours of Ukraine-Saudi negotiations, Rubio said, “Now the U.S. goes with this offer to Russia, and then we wait on what Russia will decide.”
What is the agreement about?
The joint statement proposed an extension of 30-day ceasefire if the conflict parties mutually agreed. Ukraine also displayed willingness to consider the extension.
In his nightly video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he was in favor of the U.S. giving Ukraine an entire interim ceasefire where missile, drone, and bomb attacks could not happen within the Black Sea and along the entire front line of the country.
"We see that there is some logic in accepting this step and there would be no problem in our side, therefore the Ukrainian Government would be able to accept this proposal,” Zelenskyy continued.
What was finalized apart from this? The U.S. declared that it would immediately lift the suspension on the sharing of military aid and intelligence to Ukraine. As of Tuesday, officials from Ukraine declared that both the sharing of intelligence and the aid began again.
