On Tuesday, U.S President Donald Trump claimed that he appreciated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's readiness to negotiate minerals trade and sign the deal with United States which would help further the peace process in Ukraine's war with Russia under his leadership.

Trump stated Zelenskiy made the announcement in a letter he received earlier that day while addressing the US Congress.

Earlier Zelenskiy posted on X that Ukraine stands ready to both sign the deal and negotiate peace. He also referred to an Oval Office meeting held last week that resulted in a put on hold proposal as, “regrettable.”

Four sources conversant with the issue told Reuters that planning by the Trump administration and Ukraine to sign the minerals deal was underway. ***Three of the sources*** said Trump wanted to announce the deal on the address to Congress and he had previously told aides of the plans but also asked them to keep in mind that the deal still needed to be signed and so much could change.

The remarks made by Trump suggest that some progress had already been accomplished.

In Trump’s words, ”Before this day began I received a very crucial letter from president Zelenskiy and Ukraine and in the letter it states Ukraine stands ready to make moves toward the peace talk table as quick as humanly possible.”

Trump noted that Zelenskiy had said he was willing to work toward the peace deal and had previously made statements about appreciating how America had helped Ukraine with its sovereignty and independence.

“Concerning the agreement about minerals, and the agreement on security, Ukraine is prepared to sign it at any time you find comfortable,” was how Trump recalled Zelenskiy’s words.

Trump expressed gratitude for the letter, albeit revealing that there have been serious talks with Russia which, in the recent times, seems to be giving stronger indications towards a willingness for peace.

According to Trump, these measures are meant to secure a peace deal by giving the United States a financial interest in Ukraine. To him, this is how America is expected to recoup a portion of the tens of billions of dollars the country has provided to Ukraine in the form of financial and military aid after being invaded by Russia three years ago.

Zelenskiy was rude to Trump and Pence while speaking at the White House, where they claimed he ought to praise the US for the support it has given before requesting the media for aid in Ukraine’s war against the Russians.

“Now you’re betting on World War III,” Trump stated on Friday.

U.S. REPS RECOMMENDED AN APOLOGY

U.S. Officials have recently communicated with their Kyiv counterparts regarding the signing of the minerals deal for the Ukrainian side, and they instructed Zelenskiy’s representatives to persuade the Ukrainian leader to issue a public apology to Trump. They claim that ‘Trump Does Not Want Apology From Zelenskiy’ publicly “There was a meeting in Washington in the White House on the last Friday, it did not go the way it was supposed it to be,” he said on X. Ukraine is prepared to come to the table as quickly as possible in pursuit of achieving a sustainable peace.

If the arrangement has been altered is doubtful. The version which was supposed to be signed last week had no defined provisions, either military, or politically, to Ukraine but permitted these United States of America to gain revenue from natural resources of Ukraine. It also included a provision under which the Ukrainian government was obligated to pay half of the proceeds to the monetization of state owned natural resources into a reconstruction investment fund controlled by the US and Ukraine.

On Monday, Trump hinted that his government would still be willing to agree to the deal, mentioning in a reported briefing that the Ukraine government “should appreciate more.” “This country has stuck with them through thick and thin,” Trump said. We have provided them with much more compared to Europe, and Europe should have given more than us.” France, Britain and possibly other European countries have offered to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire but would want support from the US or a “backstop.” Moscow has refused proposals for the peacekeeping troops. Fried Daniel, a former senior White House and Ambassador to Poland said that getting the minerals deal done was always going to be complicated due to the many different paths which could be taken towards it, but it would give Trump two key solid wins which are maquiladoras statement of regret and Britain’s accord of France and Britain to provide the security and boots on the ground. “Trump can and should take the win. He will be able to say that he got the Europeans to finally face up to an issue of European security which they have never done before,” said Fried, now a fellow at the Atlantic Council.
