The Union government has given excellent marks to the M-CAD model implemented by Chhattisgarh government

An endeavor by the Chhattisgarh government towards enhancing water use and providing better farmers have been recognized across the country. The Union Government’s Jal Shakti Ministry has praised the M-CAD (Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management) model by Chhattisgarh and directed all other states and union territories to adopt the similar process.
Ministry has issued a letter.
According to an official, the Union government has praised Chhattisgarh for its initiative in making irrigation system more efficient and water use more efficient and bringing improvements for the farmers. The ministry appreciated for the excellent work done by state government to increase water use efficiency and to bring best of facilities for the farmers. Jal Shakti ministry has issue a letter for all the state and union territories to Water Resource departments by mentioned Chhattisgarh as an ideal model for the state where M-CAD project is based on its own resource.

The ministry commented that the State Government has initiated various actions to meet the objectives and the guiding principles under the M-CAD and Water Management Plan. The initiative by the Chhattisgarh government has been stated as ideal practice for the improved irrigation efficiency and to ensure full realization of created irrigation potential. The letter also stated that the move by Chhattisgarh is an evidence of seriousness and commitment to the state government for water potential increase. Other states also have been asked to take such steps as they can according to their resources and the situation of the state.

The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Mr. Vishnu Dev Sai, express his happiness for this accomplishment saying that the State Government always experiment and introduce new ideas to improve the farming sector, water conservation and to make water use more efficient and Scientific in the state and called this achievement as a tribute for the state farmers, officers and employees working in Water Resources Department and also on behalf of good governance and added that this has been the priority for building up a developed Chhattisgarh with scientific water management and stronger farming sector.
What is M-CAD model?
The M-CAD is a scheme and the methodology developed with the purpose of optimum and scientific utilization of water available from the irrigation projects, modernization of canals, water distribution system and water delivery system of water to farms, and enabling the farmers to achieve complete benefits from the created irrigation projects. The methodology puts emphasis on reduce in water waste, improvement of water management, supply of adequate water to fields on time, and enhancing agricultural production. Increasing of income of farmers and improving water conservation are direct benefits received.
