Ravi on DMK Controversy: For demanding students in a college to shout ‘Jai Shri Ram’, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has landed himself in hot water. The academic community along with the ruling DMK has come strongly against Ravi’s remarks. The SPCSS-TN has claimed that Ravie has breached his oath and secularism by using Tahoe phrases. This academic group has urged President Murmu to dismiss him from the position for violating principles.
The State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu (SPCSS-TN) asserted that Ravi had strayed away from the Constitution and principles by undermining constitutive institutions. “Ravi should be stripped of the title Tamil Nad Governor and his position immediately for failing to US Article 159 (Oath by Governor in Constitution of India)”, said SPCSS-TN General Secretary P.B Prince Gajendra Babu in a speech.
As per PTI, Ravi was the chief guest to hand the winning prizes of a literary competition in a government aided college in Madurai. In his speech on 12 April, he instructed students to repeat ‘Jai Shri Ram’ thrice.
The statement further noted that India is a secular state according to the Constitution, secularism defines education, and it is the basic duty of each and every citizen to obey the Constitution. Additionally, one must honor its values and institutions, the tricolor flag, and the anthem of the nation. Cultivate scientific humanism along with curious spirit for reforms.
It has been alleged that in this case the name of a specific deity was beaten into students and repeated three times under the command of Ravi’s stranglehold. SPCSS-TN has requested the President in this statement that Ravi must be sacked from his position as Governor of Tamil Nadu without delay.
While Congress MP from Tiruvallur Sasikanth Senthil noted in a post on X, “After being pulled up by the SC, now he is trying to wit the administration by getting students to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ – some sort of twist. Obviously, in his frustration, he is trying to send the message that even if the courts pitted out verdicts against me, I will find bypasses to my objectives. Such a cocktail of vasanas is deadly! It upsets the equilibrium of democratic institutions and the constitution!”
The apex court chewed out Ravi on April 8 for stubbornly refusing to clear the 10 pending bills he approved in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The apex court also delivered a remarkable verdict in the tussle between Tamil Nadu's government and their Governor. The apex court opined that the Governor has a month timelines in which to respond to the decision made by the Assembly.
