SpaceX successfully launched the Fram2 mission on Monday from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking the first human spaceflight to orbit Earth’s poles. The unique mission is fully funded by cryptocurrency billionaire Chun Wang, who also serves as the mission commander.

Riding aboard the Crew Dragon capsule, the Fram2 crew will spend approximately three to five days in space. The capsule is expected to splash down off the California coast after completing its orbit over both the North and South Pole.

Fram2 Crew and Mission Objectives

Joining Chun Wang on this groundbreaking journey are Rabea Rogge, Eric Philip, and Jannicke Mikkelsen. As part of their time in space, the Fram2 crew will conduct around 20 scientific experiments, focusing primarily on human physiological responses to microgravity.

In a nod to Earth's history of polar exploration, the mission is named after "Fram"—a Norwegian ship from 1892 known for its key Arctic expeditions. The mission’s name symbolizes a bridge between historical and modern polar discovery.

Scientific Goals and Space Agriculture Experiments

Among the mission’s experiments is an effort to grow mushrooms in space. Though the crew will not consume the produce due to safety protocols, the study aims to explore sustainable food growth possibilities in microgravity conditions.

Additionally, a British tech startup has contributed to gender-specific health research by sending urine test strips designed for female astronauts. These will be used by crew members Rabea Rogge and Jannicke Mikkelsen to gather data related to space health disparities between genders.
