A tragic accident occurred in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday when a boat carrying people attending a funeral overturned in the Sharda river. The incident took place in the Tabour police station area. In the mishap, four people lost their lives, while seven others were rescued. One person is still missing, and rescue operations are underway to locate them.

How the Accident Happened

According to reports, the accident happened when Dinesh Gupta, a resident of Ratanganj village, passed away, and his last rites were scheduled for Saturday. To attend the funeral, family members and relatives were crossing the Sharda river in two boats.

  • One boat carried Dinesh Gupta's body along with some family members.
  • The other boat carried additional relatives and attendees.
  • While crossing the river, one of the boats capsized as it reached the middle of the river, leading to the tragedy.

Local Divers Helped in Rescue Operations

The accident caused panic and chaos, with people screaming for help. Immediately, local residents and divers rushed to the scene and jumped into the river to save as many lives as possible.

Authorities Responded Promptly

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police and district administration reached the location and initiated a search operation. Divers are continuing their efforts to find the missing person.
