Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Regarded as the “King of Bollywood,” Shah Rukh Khan has made his mark with many unforgettable performances that continue to define his career. Of his many noteworthy performances, Baazigar stands out as one of the most important in his career. Just like Baazigar will always stand out for SRK, now Robin Bhatt is also gaining a fair amount of publicity as the writer of the film, who narrates captivating tales from the sets.

During his interview with Friday Talkies, Bhatt who happens to be the younger sibling of eminent directors Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt claimed that the film ‘Baazigar’ was first offered to Salman Khan as well as Akshay Kumar but surprisingly both declined. The project was considered incomplete until it was presented to SRK, who he claims was the perfect lead to the movie.

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘I Fairly’ Bold Condition

Bhatt went on to recount his one stipulation Shah Rukh Khan had put forward was one of his robust pre-conditions for signing the movie with a taciturn expression on his face.

"I will do the film if you only let the script stay as it is. You shall not attempt to justify the character or turn him sympathetic."

That insistence allowed the screenplay of this film retain the daring dark tale it was meant to tell. With that said, the fearless nature of the King Khan protected the character, plot and most importantly the curse of ruining cinematic fidelity and keeping it black and white.

Obstacles in the Casting of Baazigar.

The casting for Baazigar was challenging. The film did not follow the usual hero and villain narrative. The lead character had to be both a protagonist and an antagonist which required a somewhat fierce, yet charming actor.

After Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan rejected the offer, Shah Rukh Khan’s boldness and broad range of skills made him the perfect fit for the role.

Connected to the Script Early On

Bhatt recalled their first encounter vividly. SRK used to frequent Hotel Villa during the filming of Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and he clicked with the Baazigar script instantly.

“He just chose to forgo hearing the latter half, and decided to sign on as part of the film after reaching the intermission mark,” Bhatt shared.

The shock Baazigar crushed all forms super hit records, banging heads upfront.
