In a recent twist in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the Mumbai Police’s 1,600-page chargesheet reveals that fingerprint samples taken from the actor’s house also do not match the primary suspect, Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam Shehzad, and his alleged associate, Shahid Shabbir Sayyed.
The Bandra police were under the impression that 20 latent fingerprint samples were collected from different locations in Saif’s apartment. The fingerprint sample taken by the State CID’s Fingerprint Bureau claimed that all 20 were identical to the accused, except one fingerprint they found on the eighth floor of the building which has nothing to do with the crime scene.
Reliability of Fingerprint Evidence Questioned
As further revealed by Mumbai Police sources, fingerprint evidence from areas with high traffic is inherently unreliable, especially with the conjectural flow of people interacting with usually accessible surfaces.
Shariful’s exculpatory position further deepens the already complex forensic matter, as key surfaces like the black bathroom door, bedroom sliding door, and closet door did not corroborate with him.
Mumbai Court Receives a Complete Chargesheet
Even with the inconsistencies regarding the fingerprints, the police have assembled a composite case with facial recognition evidence, an identification parade, and results from the forensic lab. The chargesheet includes excerpts regarding the knife piece lodged close to Saif’s spine which supported a claim from Shariful Islam’s ailing arm.
The prosecution provided the evidence to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, opposing bail on charges claiming that the accused had inflicted grievous injuries on “Saif”.
Case Details Of The Night Of The Incident
As reported on 16th January, around 2 a.m., a particular incident came to light when actor Saif Ali Khan “responded” to a rather unusual commotion happening in his son Jeh’s room. After listening to some commotion and seeing a female staff being assaulted, the actor went ahead to face the assailant. This faceoff came with its own repercussions; severe stab wounds which Saif sustained.
