A tragic incident has surfaced in Lucknow, where Mahesh Nishad, a domestic worker employed as a cook, died by suicide, allegedly due to sustained harassment by his employers—retired judge Anil Srivastava and his wife Vandana Srivastava. The case has been registered at the Hazratganj Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway.

Allegations of Harassment and Theft

Nishad, who worked in the couple’s residence in Aliganj, was accused of theft by the couple during the Holi festival. His family claims that the false allegations and continued pressure drove him to take his own life. According to police, Nishad hanged himself on Tuesday while his family, including his two children, was away from the house.

Suicide Video Evidence Emerges

Before his death, Nishad recorded a video message on his mobile phone. In the video, he emotionally addressed his mother, saying:

"Mummy ji, I will not meet you after today, because I am going to commit suicide."

He strongly denied the theft allegations, insisting someone else was responsible.

Family Accuses Police of Inaction

Nishad’s family claims he was under immense pressure and mental distress due to the false accusations. His minor son appeared in a video stating:

"My father was tortured and the police is also not listening to us."

They also accused the local police of not acting promptly on earlier complaints.

Legal Action Initiated Against the Accused

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Hazratganj) Vikas Kumar Jaiswal confirmed that a case has been registered against the couple under charges of abetment to suicide. He added that the suicide video has been sent for forensic analysis to verify its authenticity and contents.

"We have taken cognizance of the video and begun collecting evidence. Appropriate legal proceedings are ongoing," Jaiswal said.

The incident has sparked serious concerns about the treatment of domestic workers and the role of law enforcement in protecting vulnerable individuals from unjust harassment.
