First visit of an Indian Prime Minister after 45 years

Tanmay Lal, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, said that this visit of Prime Minister Modi is very important, as this is the first occasion in 45 years when an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Poland. This visit takes place when 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries have also been completed.

He further said that a unique relationship between India and Poland dates back to the time of World War II during the 1940s when more than six thousand women and children from Poland took refuge in two princely states of India – Jamnagar and Kolhapur. It is believed that this visit of Prime Minister Modi will further strengthen the relations between the two countries. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited Russia, where he was awarded Russia’s highest honor.
