Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The convenience and longevity of plastic products make them a staple in virtually all homes today. However, a recent global examination brings to light a serious issue: phthalates—compounds added to plastic to make it softer and more flexible—are believed to increase the chances of heart disease and death at an alarming rate.
The study, published in eBiomedicine, exposes the impact of synthetic materials on the body and how they inflame blood vessels and arteries—triggering heart attacks and other severe cardiovascular illnesses. The research estimates that over 10% of heart-related deaths within the 55-64 age bracket in 2018, were due to phthalates.
A New York University Health Expert, Dr. Trasande, disclosed that phthalates inject systemic inflammation into an individual’s body, which intensifies underlying heart ailments and increases chances of mortality. In addition to heart health, phthalates pose a significant risk to male reproductive health. Phthalates disrupt testosterone production, reducing sperm count along with other vital hormonal functions.
Moreover, researchers have associated these compounds with chronic conditions including asthma, obesity, and even some forms of cancer.
