Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Support has poured in after Jammu and Kashmir Pahalgam’s deadly terror attack that claimed 27 lives. In response, the Indian government’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty has been largely admired.

Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced his full support on the matter, calling it India’s reclamation of authority over its rivers.

Indira Gandhi had previously defended this domestic criticism claiming severing Hindustan’s water resources would only reinforce Pakistan’s craving for bloodshed. Sarma was otherwise a supporter of the treaty.

Focused on Nehru’s Past Blunders  

Sarma, in a lengthy X (formerly Twitter) post did not hold back targeting India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for signing the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a ‘strategic blunder’ and one of the ‘greatest’ blunders.

Turning heads across the world for removing the country from the indus basin, Sarma argues, target Nehar’s own nations aim forced on him by the World Bank and American administration.

He highlighted that:

“The contours of the river basin, wherein a country’s natural advantage fabricted by a country’s known resources, were controlled by Nehru over 80 percent of Indus basin waters towards Pakistan's control.”

These claimed reasons caused problems for water resources in Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir.  

Modi’s Decision Seen as a Bold Shift  

Sarma called PM Modi’s action a “historic correction” stating:  

“This bold move strikes at the heart of Pakistan’s fragile economy, where over 75% of agriculture depends on Indus waters. Modi’s decision ends a historic betrayal over six decades and marks the rise of an India unrelentingly asserting its interests.”
