The latest terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has drawn tremendous public and diplomatic scrutiny which resulted in the killings of 26 unarmed civilians. Pakistan and India relations have always been strained and this incident agitated them further. Now, India is mourning the loss and rightfully so, however, users on social media platforms have gone on to the extent of demanding a boycott of business relations, sanctions and other forms of attack which will only worsen the relationship further.
Online Reactions and The Socio-Political Concerns:
The debate around the attack reverberates through religious identity, definitions of terrorism and is Islam even a religion of peace. This incident prompted Azeem Banatwalla the standup comic to take to Instagram where he condemned attackers as “brainwashed cowards” and took it a step further declaring, “You are not Muslims. You are barely human.”
A section of society is focused on using these attacks to gain attention for other issues. Kinnori Ghosh a lawyer claimed that Terrorism has a religion and opened the conversation as to why such acts of violence are done so often by Muslims and never by Hindus raising many politically charged discussions.
Calls for Boycott and Economic Sanction:
Politically motivated users on X are arguing that no sporting or cultural relations should exist between the two nations which will only worsen the already tense environment. @DikshaKandpal8 stated that ‘any future India vs Pakistan cricket match will only signify a national failure. This insane belief does seem to be well grounded in extremist logic because they often blanket suspended reasoning with metaphoric rhetoric such as “it is for their own good.” Other user @kangtomai urged people to call out Western Union and PayPal to restrict financial exchanges with Pakistan.
What is stopping india from going full blown war with Pakistan ? How long will it tolerate innocent killings of Hindus ?

Government Action & Responses:
In a previous remark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that the attackers "will not go unpunished," referring to some decided action. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also observed this aspect, further assuring that India will respond and furthermore, it will be with the ‘harshest consequences’ possible.
In the midst of growing apprehensions, Pakistan has placed its air force on high alert, indicating some readiness towards possible counter actions. This has greatly increased the region’s diplomatic and military tension.
Pakistan Denies Involvement:
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said during the talk that he will not be attending the meeting that is part of the attack’s coordination, labelling this budding violence as “homegrown.” He placed the blame for increasing strife in areas such as Kashmir, Nagaland and even Manipur as an outcome of “internal oppression” and “denial of fundamental rights.”
We have absolutely nothing to do with it. We reject terrorism in all its forms and everywhere, says Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on the #Pahalgam attack.#pahalgamattack pic.twitter.com/qGiTz6uVOn

Asif went on to say, as a way to deflect the blame, Pakistan is being accused which is unmerited for the understanding of the situation, saying that India’s perception of oppressed minorities and internal resistance is the issue that too forced by external influences.
