Handset maker Oppo officially unveiled its newest additions to the photography-centric Reno lineup: the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro smartphones in India last week. These devices boast a three-lens camera array, vibrant OLED screens and a host of AI-powered capabilities. While the Oppo Reno 12 enters the market with a price tag of Rs 32,999 for its configuration featuring 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, its pricier sibling, the Reno 12 Pro, comes in two variants: a 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option priced at Rs 36,999, and a higher-capacity model with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, which retails for Rs 40,999.

The Oppo Reno 12 5 G brings much-talked-about artificial intelligence (AI) features, something we have already seen Google doing with its Pixel line and with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. Today, on AI Appreciation Day, we explain the top five AI features of the Oppo Reno 12 5G in detail.

AI Eraser 2.0

This latest image processing technology, using AI, removes unwanted elements from pictures. This is similar to Google’s Magic Eraser which detects distractions in your photos, like photobombers or power lines, so you can remove them in a few taps. AI Eraser 2.0 feature extends beyond removing unexpected people from photos; it can also erase distracting objects that mar otherwise picturesque shots, such as utility cables cutting across a skyline, or somebody photobombing a picture.

AI Writer

A new feature in the new smartphones is changing the way users approach written communication. AI Writer text assistant aims to simplify the  daunting task of composing professional emails and messages. It offers real-time writing support, providing suggestions for sentence completion, grammar corrections, and even alternative phrasing options. This tool is particularly beneficial for those who find themselves struggling with formal communication or simply pressed for time.

AI-Powered Cameras

Oppo Reno 12 comes with a 50MP main camera, featuring optical image stabilization and a large sensor for good light capture. This primary lens is complemented by an ultra-wide camera, for expansive field of view as well as a dedicated macro lens rounds. The handset maker has also added a dash of AI into the photography experience by developing a suite of AI-powered tools that work with the hardware for photography. These AI-enabled features go beyond simple image capture, and give users the ability to enhance their photos with high-grade editing tools. The AI algorithms work in real-time to optimise settings for each shot, ensuring optimal exposure and colour balance. Post that, AI lets users make edits, from removing imperfections to transforming the mood and style of an image.

AI Studio

This app brings a range of templates, allowing users to reimagine their profile pictures in various styles and themes. From a futuristic cyberpunk-inspired design to a professional headshot, the AI Studio app is my favourite in the Reno 12 series.
