
On Friday, a leopard attacked three people at the Sujauli Gram Panchayat bordering Katarniaghat forest in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. The victims were working in the fields adjacent to a small canal when the leopard attacked.
The injured are Geeta, Chandrika, and Dharmendra. They were all taken to a neighboring hospital and are said to have sustained minor injuries.
Following the Attack, locals quickly surrounded the leopard in a nearby field. Divisional Forest Officer B. Shivshankar told the press that around 400 people had congregated to see. The forest department was informed right away.
Even though it is assumed the leopard turned around and retreated toward the forest, a lot of villagers continued to pursue the leopard in an attempt to trap it.
Responding vexed to the villagers, a team from the forest department, together with local police and administrative officials, arrived on the scene to control the situation. They stepped in to call for the assembled crowd to vacate the area, and although the majority complied, about a hundred did not and chose to stay.
It was reported that ever since, no activity has been seen from the leopard. Its claimed to have stealthily returned into the jungle, but it’s believed that the leopard is still beneath the range of of sight. The default position is that there is no equipment available on-site. However, a certain level of these measures are in place: an untended net will be positioned to ensure safe containment of the leopard, while a standard tranquilizer unit is present on standby.
Active Restrictions in Effect
The responsible authorities, for the security of the residents and to avert additional incidents are continuing incursion monitoring. The calm and forest department is in diligent collaboration with the police.
