The family of Mizuki Itagaki confirmed his death on social media on April 17, stating that the 24-year-old former M!LK actor was found dead in Tokyo. A police investigation had been underway since his disappearance was reported in January 2025.
Critically acclaimed for his role in The Fool's Kiss and later in Fake Motion, heagaki was considered one of Japan’s rising acting talents. His unmatched demeanor earned him a calm personality and an immense fan following. Reports suggest that he was struggling with his mental health in the months leading up to his death.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of actor Mizuki Itagaki due to an unfortunate incident,” said the family in a public statement. “We are grateful for all the fans and every single person who worked alongside him.” They also added that Tokyo police informed them of having found a body they presumed to be Itagaki’s which gave closure to his family’s months of searching.
The Itagaki family's statement said he was struggling with health issues for the past year and didn’t elaborate on the cause of death. They said, “He had only just started making steps toward returning to work.” “It is heartbreaking that his life ended this way – something even he may not have expected.”
They also offered an apology to supporters from across the world. “We’re truly sorry we couldn’t give you a proper goodbye. We hope you’ll remember Mizuki and the joy he brought to so many lives.”
Born in Tokyo in 2000, Itagaki had his first television breakthrough after being scouted by Stardust Promotion when he was only ten years old. He acted in movies like Dark Gold Ushima-kun Part 2 where he starred in 2014 and included appearance in a music video by Fujifabric, he also had a role in notable television dramas like In-house Marriage Honey, Super Rich, Old Rookie, and Black Cinderella. He was featured on social media platforms his friends and fans reminiscing about his untimely death preceding the news.
