Suspense crime, Digital Desk : With the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, and following the support of Turkey and Azerbaijan for Pakistan, Indian citizens took to social media to promote a specific narrative: boycott travel to both countries.

As a consequence of this, leading travel agencies reported a rapid decline in travel bookings coupled with an increase in cancellations.

1. Booking Patterns Reveal Escalating Public Sentiment

Travel platform MakeMyTrip confirmed that travel to Turkey and Azerbaijan reported a 60% downfall and a 250% increase in cancellations within a week. The company issued a statement supporting public sentiment, claiming:

“MakeMyTrip chooses to discontinue promotional offerings until further notice,” adding, “We advise against travel that is not deemed essential due to ongoing conflicts with Turkey and Azerbaijan.”  

2. MakeMyTrip Sentiment is Supported by EaseMyTrip’s Rise in Cancellations

The same day, EaseMyTrip co-founder Nishant Pitti also stood up for the country’s interest, reporting a 22% cancellation rate to Turkey and 30% to Azerbaijan. Prior to this, the company released an advisory on May 9 that urged customers to avoid unnecessary travel to these countries.  

He clarified that while the number of existing bookings cannot be altered due to inconvenience to passengers, the company head stated, “Endeavours to favour the national interest in my opinion. It is best to not mix moral convictions with profitability.”

3. End Licensing And Usage Celebrity Consumers

Weighing on the egocentric appeal, Pitti urged almost fellows constituents not to patron celebrities who promote Chinese products and not to use platforms owned by Chinese.

“Stop using such sites. Boycott those endorsements. ZPatriotism > Benefits in any form,” was his post on X.

4.Dominated Affect and Seat Wideness

This situation is most profoundly prevailing.

India visiting tourists to Turkey was 330,000 in 2024, an increase from 119,503 in 2014.

In 2024 Azerbaijan hosted 243,589 Indian tourists up from 4,853 in 2014.

According to aviation data, weekly seat availability is around 13,000 from India to Turkey and 3,000 from India to Azerbaijan.

With paused advertising and stalled new bookings, these figures will be declining more than previously expected in the next few weeks.

5. Political Action and The Role Of Social Media  

The social media campaign strategy of the boycott received major political initiative when Turkey and Azerbaijan’s official structures, condemned India’s military action with Pahalgam terror attack in June 2022. hasśli King India has circulated hashtags like #BoycottTurkey #BoycottAzerbaijan and #BoycottTurkeyAzerbaijan has been literally hijacked since May 11.
