A 42-year-old Indian national, Kolathu James Leo, has been formally charged with multiple offences in Singapore, including criminal intimidation, after allegedly causing a disturbance aboard a Singapore-bound Scoot flight from Sydney on February 27, The Straits Times reported.
According to court filings, Leo is accused of threatening to kill a male crew member, using criminal force, and being intoxicated—disrupting the order and discipline of the flight.
Incident Details: Aggression and Restraint Mid-Flight
A police spokesperson stated that Leo had to be restrained by the cabin crew for the remainder of the journey after exhibiting aggressive and erratic behaviour. Reports allege he:
Shouted mid-flight while under the influence of alcohol
Attempted to detach a seat pocket
Hit the seat in front of him
Grabbed the wrist of a flight attendant when approached
Leo reportedly calmed down only when warned that the aircraft would turn back to Australia if his behaviour continued.
Legal Proceedings and Potential Penalties
Leo was arrested by Singapore's Airport Police Division upon arrival at Changi Airport. Authorities confirmed he is expected to plead guilty on April 22.
If convicted:
Criminal force against the crew: Up to 3 months in jail and SGD 1,500 fine
Criminal intimidation (threatening to kill): Up to 10 years in prison and a fine
Intoxication onboard: Up to 1 year in jail and SGD 20,000 fine
Singapore's Tough Stance on In-Flight Misconduct
