The Indian Embassy in Canada expressed deep sorrow over the death of an Indian national who was fatally stabbed in Rockland, a town located near Ottawa. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, with Canadian authorities confirming that a suspect has been apprehended.

While specific details about the event remain limited, the Embassy acknowledged the tragedy in a public statement on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa, due to stabbing. Police has stated a suspect has been taken into custody. We are in close contact through a local community association to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved kin,” the Embassy said.

Incident Occurred Near Lalonde Street

According to a report from CBC News, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident just before 3 p.m. local time on Friday near Lalonde Street in Clarence-Rockland, approximately 40 kilometers east of downtown Ottawa. One individual was confirmed dead at the scene, while another was taken into custody.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or the suspect. It also remains unclear whether any formal charges have been filed.

Increased Police Presence in Rockland

Following the incident, the Ontario Provincial Police have urged local residents to expect an increased law enforcement presence in the Rockland area as investigations continue.
