
Suspense crime, Digital Desk : India’s government officials have dismissed the assertions made by President Trump of the US, stating that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan has not been prompted as a result of any issue related to trade. From these sources, it is clear that although senior US officials spoke with their counterparts in India, the issue of trade was not discussed at those meetings.
During operation Sindoor on May 9, US Vice President JD Vance had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also, US Secretary of State Rubio met Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on May 8 and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on 10th May. As per the Indian sources, meetings referred by the above Ports did not form part of any trade alert discussions.
Basis of the Assertion
Trump claimed on May 12 that he had issued a statement saying that he had made a warning to both India and Pakistan saying that they must stop fighting if they want free trade with US. He claimed US business relationships with both countries hinge on them agreeing to a ceasefire.
Trump’s Comments On Trade And Ceasefire
While commenting, ‘Trump’ said it was unusual to use trade as a diplomatic tool and added that he was the one who facilitated a permanent ceasefire. In addition to that, he said the U.S. acted incredibly quickly to bring the agreement into effect and also claimed that the U.S. was gearing up to expand its business relations with both India and Pakistan after the ceasefire.
