In the contemporary world, where everything moves at lightning speed, an increasing number of people are suffering from the problems related to the liver and digestion. Eating out all the time, overindulging in leftovers, and skipping meals, are some of the common causes. The absence of alcohol consumption does not mean the liver is healthy. These eating habits greatly rob one of a healthy digestion system.The liver health deteriorates.

Unlike alcohol, there are less talked about everyday foods that have quite the impact on the liver and one’s digestion system health if taken frequently.

1. Fried and Fast Foods  
The burgers, fries, samosas and pakodas, while being easily available, do pose a serious risk to the digestive system while also being delicious in taste.

Why it's harmful: A majority of the society consume these foods without batting an eyelash and are blinded by the taste, not knowing it is loaded with Trans fats and excess oil bound to damage the liver cells.

Risk: It is often found to lead to fatty liver and may even lead to inflammation, cirrhosis, or severe liver failure.

2. Excessive Sugar Intake  

While also being equally unhealthy, traditional sweets and cookies are increasingly becoming ramped in households for use in celebrations. It comes to concern that even these sweetened delicacies can be particularly damaging for the liver.

Key insight: People who do skip on boozes do develop a serious cause for the liver when followed on a diet rich in processed food.

3. Ready-to-eat and Processed Foods:  

Cooked meals, be it homemade or restaurant made, are accompanied by packaged meats, instant noodles and even healthy snacks, which might sound healthy, but are incredibly damaging to the liver health, worsened when prepared on endless.

Things to consider: Artificial preservatives, colors, and flavoring ingredients

Effects: All of these added ingredients may act as poisons within the body causing acidity, gas, and toxicity to the liver.

4. Overconsumption of Salt

Similar to sugar, excess intake of salt is detrimental to liver health and the functioning of the digestive system.

Primary constituent: Sodium as it is a water retainer and helps in high blood pressure.

Risk for the Liver: Liver fibrosis is a mid-stage liver scarring with high risk of cirrhosis later in life.

5. Soft Drinks and Energy Drinks

Soda and energy drinks are a common source of consumption, but they are terrible for your liver.

Contain: An overdose of caffeine, sugar and carbonation.

Effect on Health: Soars the hydrochloric acid in the stomach resulting in acid reflux, gas and multiple digestive problems.
