Elon Musk has stated that , X (formerly Twitter) experienced a major disruption in services and claimed that it was traced back to a massive cyberattack from Ukraine. According to Elon, there was a massive disruption where more than 40,000 people reported outages on Downdetector, spanning multiple regions such as Asia, Europe, and North America.

In a an interview with Fox Business, Musk was quoted saying “There are some things that we do not know why they happened, but there was a ran a cyberattack with sheer size and volumes with having several IP addresses redrawing from Ukraine region, attempting to disable the system called X. Musk went on to say how the attack had signs of extensive planning and innovation and claimed how it might be the case of a nation state or a very well organized faction.

In a post on his Twitter account, Musk stated, “There are consistent cyber attacks every day, however this was executed in a more planned way which tells me that a state and or coordinated group is involved.”

As a result of these post made by Elon Musk, people started to complain about retrieval and posting failure or posting completion issues. Downdetector noted that a massive 56% of people reported issues with the app, 11% with the server connections and 33% for the website.

Musk connected the attack to a wider effort against him, citing the protests that have emerged over his direction of DOGE, an initiative from the Trump presidency that sought to eliminate employees from the federal government. Musk supporters claim that the vandalism perpetrated on Tesla property, which is claimed to be Tesla's, is part of this campaign.

Nevertheless, cybersecurity analysts have cautioned against simplistic logic based on only an IP address, as proxies are commonly utilized to mask the true location of attackers. As for the origin of attack, X has not disclosed any forensic information yet.

Musk purchasing X in 2022 seemed to worsen the undulated technical problems experienced on the platform because of staff layoffs, fueling predictions about the level of cyber security the service registered.
