Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The residents of West Pakistan are in a state of panic as an earthquake tremor has occurred today (Monday) of a 4.6 magnitude richter scale). The NCS (National Center For Seismology) reported that the quake occurred at exactly 1:26 pm and has a center of 10 kilometers with latitude of 29.12 degrees north and longitude 67.26 degrees east. Inhabitants of the region were reported to come out of their houses as they try to escape from the aftermath of the severe tremor.

Pakistan as a whole has been repetitively experiencing quake occurrences almost within a week. One week prior to today's (Monday) date, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude was reported. The NCS stated that the epicenter of the quake was 36.60 degrees north and 72.89 degrees east. Moreover, two days prior on the 10th of May, a quake of 4.0 magnitude was clutching on the are of Quetta, around southwest of the Border district between Afghanistan and Pakistan, occurred at 1:44 AM and had 10 kilometers depth as well. The momentum of these earthquakes within such less time monitoring geologists simultaneously and so does the locals.

Significant earthquakes are the result of the movement of large, rigid tectonic plates located within Earth's crust, while smaller shifts result in minor earthquakes. The friction or collision between any two plates can release tremendous amounts of seismic energy whose vibrations are felt as tremors on the surface of the Earth. With land and property left unchecked, the danger posed by these eruptions of nature get riskier. Tectonic activity is further aggravated with urban sprawl.

In India approximately 59 percent of the total territory is deemed to be earthquake prone. Scientists have further divided it into four zones which include: Zone-2 (least sensitive)  Zone-3 (Moderately sensitive) Zone-4 (Highly sensitive)  and Zone-5 (the Most Sensitive region to Earthquakes). As an example, Delhi falls under Zone-4 which makes it prone to earthquakes surpassing 7.0 on the Richter scale which can cause tremendous loss if adequate countermeasures aren’t taken ahead of time.

Pakistan’s confrontations with frequent tremors and inclination of the entire region towards sensitive seismic activity pushes the need of adopting policies that tackle preparedness for disasters head on coupled with enduring structural fortification.
