While attending a World Liver Day event organized by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta underscored that the capital city must cater to the healthcare needs of not only its residents but patients from all over the country as well.
Specialized health care has certainly garnered increasing governmental preoccupation and focus, given Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent inauguration of an Integrated Liver Rehabilitation Centre on the premises of ILBS.
Emphasis on Innovation and Improvement of Medical Facilities
CM Gupta went further on the limitations of healthcare infrastructure and medical technology suggesting these issues require urgent attention. Highlighting the gap in accessibility, she pointed out: “It is our responsibility to ensure that no citizen suffers due to lack of access to healthcare.” In terms of infrastructure, she stressed that “We must be prepared to meet this challenge,” referring to the influx of patients coming to Delhi from various regions of India seeking treatment.
Focusing on the rationale behind other state-centered priorities, she hailed the central initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, alongside reinforcing her government’s pledge towards supporting the elderly, particularly those above 70 years.
The Cause of Organ Donation
Gupta suggested an increase in the awareness on the topic of organ donation. “After our death, we can still save lives by donating our organs. So, my plea is for everyone to consider this noble cause,”she added. “I pledged to donate my organs 15 years ago and I still stand by it.”
Delhi Lt Governor Supports Healthcare as a Policy Focus Area
Delhi Lt. Governor Saxena Vinai Kumar praised, ILBS and once more reiterated the committment of the government towards the reforms and under the leadership of CM Gupta. “We had policy gaps which set us back in the past, ” he stated. “This administration seems to be trying to make significant shifts in how health is delivered.”
